Will he, or won’t he?

Will Young’s record company has rejected an offer by BBC TV show Top Of The Pops to allow him to perform a medley of his current number one singles on this week’s programme.

Will currently tops the UK charts with his double-a single of Anything is Possible and Evergreen. Record label BMG want him to perform both songs, but this is highly unusual, especially given the show only last 30 minutes.

Talks will continue this week, otherwise it could mean we’ll only see a video of Will on this week’s show.

Do you think he should get special treatment and perform both tracks?

Beckhams Idolised As Hindu Gods

To every Manchester United fan, David Beckham is god. Now two Asian artists have painted him, together with his famous wife Posh Spice, Victoria and son, Brooklyn, as Hindu deities.

The picture is just one of a series of Indian influenced pieces to be exhibited during the run-up to the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, which starts in June. The striking and beautiful portrait illustrates Beckham as the Hindu god, Shiva, complete with four arms, while his wife Victoria is depicted as the wife of Shiva, goddess Parvati. Brooklyn, 2, on the other hand, is pictured as the baby elephant god Ganesha.

The Beckhams are pictured sitting on a throne, with a crowned David holding exclusive sunglasses and “Golden balls”, the golden football famously dubbed by the ‘Mind Of your Own’ songstress. One of David’s arms is around the waist of a tiara-wearing Victoria and the third arm holds Brooklyn who’s in a baby Man U uniform.

The twin sisters who fashioned the stunning work, Amrit and Rabindra Singh, 36, say the portrait is anything except offensive or rude.

“We are using the language of religion, but it doesn’t mean we are saying they are gods in a spiritual sense but in a material sense, rather. They are idols people follow just like gods in the Hindu religion,” says Amrit. “They are depicted as the ideal family within celebrity circles”.

Will Young smashes records!

Will Young, the winner of ITV talent show Pop Idol, has stormed to the top of this week’s UK Singles Chart.

His double A-sided single was so popular that it has sold a staggering 1,108,269 copies in the first week of release. This smashes the previous record to give Will the title of Fastest Selling UK Single in the entire history of the UK charts.

The double-A side contains the tracks Evergreen & Anything Is Possible.Columbian export Shakira came in 2nd place on this week’s charts – but sales of her single “Whenever Whenever” only managed to sell one tenth that of Will Young’s single.

There is currently some controversy as to whether Will shall appear on this week’s Top Of The Pops television show. The BBC’s flagship music program has been asked by Will’s management to allow him to perfom both of the double A-sided tracks. However, the BBC has never allowed any artist to perform more than one song per show. We’ll keep you updated – check back with us for more info!

Jive Records have also said to fans of the ‘Drowning’ hitmakers not to believe the write-ups stating that Nick Carter, ex-boyfriend of Willa Ford, has split away from the boyband and is recording material of his own.

Families Of Men Killed In Aaliyah’s Crash Sue

The families of 2 passengers who died in the plane crash that killed Aaliyah and 8 others on the 25th of August 2001, are suing her record label, Virgin Records.

Family members of Eric Foreman and Anthony Dodd allege that Virgin was careless in chartering the small plane that crashed immediately after taking off from an airfield in the Bahamas. The suits also claim the aircraft was overloaded and the pilot was not authorized to take to the air. The families seek unspecified monetary damages and answers to why this tragedy occurred. An attorney for the families said Virgin “took profits over the safety of transporting people” by using a “fly-by-night” charter aircraft corporation.

Minus the weight of Aaliyah and company, the likely weight of the plane, luggage and fuel was about 5,495 pounds, according to reports from Bahamian aviation officials. Maximum takeoff weight for the twin-engine Cessna 402B is 6,300 pounds, which would leave only 805 pounds for the pilot and passengers.

The ‘More Than A Woman’ sensation and her entourage were in the Bahamas shooting a video for the Grammy-nominated ‘Rock the Boat’.

A spokesperson for Virgin Records was not available for comment at the time this write-up was written.

In other news related to Aaliyah, her movie, Anne Rice’s ‘Queen Of The Damned’, shot straight in at No.1 at the US Box Office recently.
