Holy Smoke – it’s Britney!

Britney Spears found herself in my controversy on Friday, when she was photographed outside on her hotel room balcony – smoking a cigarette!

The pop-tastic superstar has always tried to be a good role model to her impressionable younger fans, by not drinking or smoking, and not having pre-marital sex – something which her Baptist upbringing had taught her was the right thing to do. Well, as we reported last week, she and Justin have reportedly already slept together, and we’ve also heard about Britney having a drink or two too many. Well, at least we now know Britney’s human after all, and is susceptible to the same temptations as the rest of us mortals!

Michael Jackson’s Upcoming Motion Film

Michael Jackson’s new movie will be entitled They Cage Animals At Night. Jackson has joined forces with co-director Bryan Michael Stoller to make his debut as a movie director. The film is based on the book of the same name by Jennings, Michael Burch, which tells the true story of an orphan boy.

Speaking to Hollywood Reporter earlier this week, director Stoller said: ‘Michael always felt that he grew up as an orphan because, in a way, he missed out on his childhood. The boy in the book had a tough time, and Michael related a lot to that. We’re both big kids, and we feel that when it comes to their emotions, we’d be able to draw that out for the big screen.’

While no cast members have yet been decided, the script is currently being worked on. Stoller also revealed that the final draft would be completed by the end of May.

A statement issued by Jackson confirmed the project saying, ‘I feel we have a wonderful team, and I’m looking forward to all of us working together.’Jacko has now finished filming his cameo role for Men In Black 2, due for release in the US on 3 July. The director Barry Sonnerfield has refused to give details on the star’s role, merely saying ‘Michael came in and I showed him where to stand in front of the blue screen. We shot for about five hours.’

However, Will Smith, who will star again in MIB2, indicated in a recent interview that Jackson would play an undercover alien intelligence officer.

And the question I wish to ask is, will Michael contribute to the soundtrack as well? If there’s actually a soundtrack and a theme song, you just know it’ll be huge. Can’t wait for this one.

Atomic Kitten Vs. Sugababes

Atomic Kitten members Liz and Natasha have told all that Sugababe’s Heidi Range was never a member of the Kittens.

Kitten Liz McLarnon was quoted as muttering “Heidi was in an earlier band with me and Kerry but we weren’t Atomic Kitten then.” Natasha then added “I wish people would stop saying Heidi was in Atomic Kitten. She was never in Atomic Kitten ok. No way.”

Natasha said Heidi made the decision to leave their band to head in an R&B direction.

But the Kittens, who release a new single, entitled ‘It’s OK’, on 20 May, brushed aside suggestions of a spat with chart opponents Sugababes, despite recent reports of vicious girl group rivalry. They also confirmed that Heidi Range left the previous line up for reasons of her own and was not pushed out of the band.

Less than a copule of weeks back, Heidi told the press that she left the band because it wasn’t heading in the direction she wanted.Meanwhile Kitten Liz praised their No 1 Single, Freak Like Me, saying, “I think the Sugababes single is a wicked tune. It’s sound. They’ve got wicked voices too and it deserves to be No 1.”

It was also recently reported that Sugababes told a leading publication that popular chart opponents Atomic Kitten had slagged them off left, right and center for no rhyme or reason. They didn’t do anything to or even say anything that would make them feel like slagging the Sugababes was a right thing to do. But since they did it first, the Sugababes have dissed them as well.

Mutya was then quoted as saying “They’re wannabes and we’re real. We all have the ability to have solo careers. They just don’t”. She ranted further “They said we looked like their arses and we should get jobs in Sainsbury’s.”

Meanwhile, Heidi rushed to act as a possible peacemaker. She’s been quoted as saying the Kittens are ‘Good at what they do’ and that ‘Natasha’s really talented.’

Kylie’s Heartache

Kylie Minogue, the pint-sized Aussie queen of Pop, will continue on her UK tour in Brimingham Monday night, nursing a broken heart.

Last week, she split from her long-time boyfriend James Gooding, citing photographs in the press of James with various girls as being a big factor in her decision. And who can blame her? James was photographed coming out of clubs and parties with sociallite Beverley Bloom, Sophie Dahl and Kylie-lookalike model Rosemary Ferguson. It’s reported that when Kylie confronted James with the photographic evidence, he would deny anything was going on. So, Kylie decided enough was enough.

We wish Kylie well – her brand new single – Love At First Sight – is due out at the end of month.

Holly Valance Top UK Charts

As we predicted last week, Holly Valance tops this week’s official UK single charts. The debut single from the Australian was heavily promoted on TV and radio – and her raunchy video caused quite a stir! Well done Holly! You can see more of Holly, including the video, at FHM.

Holly has knocked the Sugababes “Freak Like Me” to number 3, whilst Tweet enters the chart at number 6 with her debut offering “Oops (Oh My)”. Mary J Blige enters this weeks chart at number 9 with “No More Drama”.

Enrique The Diva Mimes At A Concert

Promoters say Enrique Iglesias mimed at a concert at a ski resort, seemingly because of the thin air.

The 15,000-strong crowd at the show in Austria booed him after turning up an hour late. Why exactly was he late? The reason given was because Enrique really needed his beauty sleep and so stayed in a bit longer.

The show, in which the ‘Escape’ singer was to perform, was to mark the end of the skiing season in Ischgl.

Onlookers said that practically all present at the event started booing when Enrique tried to speak after singing and fans realised his microphone wasn’t working.

Ischgl marketing manager Birgit Bader confirmed Enrique had been using playback for at least part of the performance.

She said: “It’s not surprising that he was using playback, our resort is at a very high altitude and it’s hard for people who are not used to it to get their breath. We are at 2,300 metres and the air is pretty thin up here.”

She also confirmed Enrique had been late for the concert because he wanted to take his time getting up.

She said “He likes having beauty sleeps and just didn’t seem to want to get out of bed in the morning. That’s why he was 30 minutes late for the press

conference. And after that he wanted to take his time over breakfast and have a shower again. That’s why he was an hour late for the concert.”

Ok – one question? What’s the word for the male equivalent of a diva, again? I know there’s a word for it but it just seems to be lost on me right this instance.

Oops! Britney’s Not A Virgin

One of the hotly debated subjects in the music industry would have to be whether or not Britney’s a virgin. At last the cat’s out of the bag. Or at least, that’s what the papers are saying. Now it seems, the words of Madonna’s song, ‘Like a Virgin’, may no longer apply to the princess of pop, Britney Spears, 20, or even N’Sync’s Justin Timberlake, 21, like it previously did.

According to her former boyfriend, Justin, he said that Britney built her career on the boast she would not have sex before marriage.

Britney, a strict Baptist, always maintained she had not jumped into beds with any of her boyfriends and that she never slept with anybody to get to where she is today.

“Everyone thinks she is still a virgin but that is a major joke. We both lost our virginity a while ago and please I should know.” said Justin who is alleged to have told a passenger on an airplane.

The whole Justin and Britney stories escalated to an all-time high sometime in March 2002 when it was reported that they were always fighting and hence decided to go their separate ways. The pop couple had been dating on and off since they were 12.

She admitted on a recent trip to Britain that she had regretted claiming she was a virgin plus even hinted that it may not be true.

“I wish I’d never said anything about it,” she told TV host Frank Skinner.

I simply have no idea what to make of this write-up. It may be just publicity, all in the hopes of making sure their names still stay in the tabloids. Or maybe it’s just rumours, perhaps? Whatever it is, you decide.

allSTARS To Sing In A Cube And Also Slam The British Press

Sparkly teen sensations allSTARS are set to bring Central London to a standstill later this week when they perform tracks from their approaching album in a glass cube, believe it or not!

Fans and passers-by will be able to see the elegant pop-5-piece doing what it is they do best, performing good quality pop numbers that is, all outside the HMV store in London’s Covent Garden on May 2nd at 11am encased in Nintendo’s seven-foot Clear Cubes.

There, allSTARS, which consists of Sam, Thaila, Ashley, Becky and Sandi will execute some of their biggest hits, as well as their gorgeous newie, ‘Back When’, plus one or two sneak preview tracks from their self-titled debut album which is released on May 13th.

The first 30,000 copies of the album sold will include a second CD of remixes.

The event also marks the release of Nintendo’s latest games console that’ll punch into stores the following day, May 3rd.Meanwhile, allSTARS seem to be all over the news these days, including them dissing the British press about the way the press writes write-ups. It has now looked like the tabs write anything they can dream up in the hopes to garner more readers and hence sales, be it the stories are false and damaging.

Thalia said “When you’re walking down the street and all those people have read something about you, they’ve perceived you in a certain way, which is completely false to the way it is, that can turn out nasty. It’s not fair.”

Luckily, allSTARS haven’t reached that stage in their career yet when the tabloids are tracing their every move and Becky divulged that she’s glad about it, saying “It’s nice to be successful like we are. Like carrying an ironing board across Ealing Broadway like I did this morning. You can do things like that without getting the papers saying ‘Oh my god!!! She bought an ironing board for GBP8.49’. So it’s cool not have to deal with any of the bad stuff that comes from being really famous.”

Well, it looks like that relative obscurity is all about to come to an end as their brilliant Cathy Dennis-penned single, ‘Back When’, settles itself onto a respectable slot in the Top 20 region of the British single chart this weekend.

Boyzone’s Keith Duffy Manages Boyband, Broken Hill

Former Boyzone stud Keith Duffy has taken a leaf out of Ronan’s book and decided to co-manage a boyband, entitled Broken Hill, made up of five boy pop fans like Andy, Marc, Enzo, Jon and Jay-B, all aged somewhere between 18-21 years.

Broken Hill? Out of the ordinary name for a “po-yband” if you ask me. But then again, this is me who said the same thing when Westlife first started out. Anyway, I digressed. Broken Hill – named after the location where Boyzone shot the video for their single, ‘Isn’t It A Wonder’ – are from Dublin who came together over the last year or so. Eventually, they hooked-up with Keith, who saw immediately that they had potential and, without hesitation, took them under his wing.

“If it was down to sheer talent then these boys would be number one all over the place,” Duffy says in a post on the “po-yband’s” official website, located proudly at www.brokenhill.ie.

“I truly believe that they have what it takes and I wouldn’t waste time on them if they didn’t. There’s been a tremendous reaction to them at any of the gigs they’ve played and we’re already talking to a number of record companies.”Keith also revealed that fellow Boyzone bandmate Mikey Graham is keen to produce tracks for the boys.
