Sugababes, Atomic Kitten Support George Michael

With the dismal chart performance of his controversial ‘Shoot The Dog’ single still fresh in his mind, George Michael looks like he could do with all the friends he can get, especially as the tabloids have declared his career over!

Luckily, Atomic Kitten and Sugababes are on hand to provide some much-needed support, despite the fact they prefer his earlier work.

“He’s just getting himself into trouble, isn’t he?” Atomic Kitten Liz McLarnon admitted, regarding the satirical track, which last week debuted in the charts at a lowly No. 12 “But at the end of the day it’s up to him. Free speech and all that.”

However, bandmate Jenny Frost admitted that ‘Shoot The Dog’ is nowhere near as good any of his previous material. “I still love George Michael ok” she confessed, adding “But I’m still in my ‘Father Figure’ phase. That and ‘Fast Love’ are my two favourite George songs.”

However, it isn’t just the ladies from Atomic Kitten who wish that George should go back to writing tunes like ‘Praying For Time’, so too do the Sugababes.

“I think George Michael has written a load of good songs” Heidi admitted “I think at the moment he might be bored writing good songs since he’s written so many. I think he’s just having a bit of laugh!”.

Anastacia Got Knighted By Sir Elton John

He may be rock royalty of a sort but that doesn’t give him the power Anastacia thinks he has. The American vocalistress reckons she has been knighted because Sir Elton John kissed her navel.

The bespectacled star told the press “He did the common air kissing on the cheeks, then got on one knee and kissed me on the midriff backstage after one of my shows.”

“You know, I didn’t know what to do. Do I kiss his ring, do I kiss his midriff? What level do we take this to? Ever since then, I’ve been telling everyone I’ve been knighted by Sir Elton John. It’s an American knighthood as far as I’m concerned.”

Anastacia’s new single ‘Why’d You Lie To Me’ will be out in a few weeks time. Her ‘One Day In Your Life’ is making huge buzzes in the States right now.

Toni Braxton: Music and Film

Toni Braxton will soon be putting the finishing touches on her fifth album, but in the meantime, the six-time Grammy winner has been testing her acting chops and taking care of her infant son, Denim.

The album probably won’t be out until fall, but fans will get to see her outside of her usual torch-singer role tonight in the VH1 movie Play’d: A Hip-Hop Story (9 ET/PT). She portrays the wife of an in-over-his-head rap star (Rashaan Nall) who splits with his longtime partner (Merlin Santana) and signs with a gangster-influenced West Coast record company.”It touches on some elements of the Biggie and Tupac story, so I read some things about that to help me prepare,” says Braxton, who previously appeared on Broadway in Beauty and the Beast and in the ensemble film comedy Kingdom Come.

”I’ve been singing professionally now for 10 years, and it is something that I’ll always do, but I always want to do other things. It was important that I took a role that established me as an actress, and I didn’t want to do anything that would have me singing.”

Braxton, who says she’s looking over other scripts but hasn’t committed to anything, gets to show her tender and tough sides in Play’d, where she’s the emotional anchor for rapper Nall.

But for all the domestic drama she faces on screen, her life at home couldn’t be happier.

”Motherhood is keeping me busy,” says Braxton, 33, who gave birth Dec. 2. ”I just love being a mom.”

She and husband Keri Lewis, the former Mint Condition keyboardist whom she wed in April 2001, split time between homes in Atlanta and Los Angeles. The couple met in 1997 while she was on tour with Kenny G and Mint Condition served as her band. Lewis is now an independent producer and songwriter who wrote the title track of Braxton’s platinum 2000 album, The Heat, and played on several songs.

They also collaborated on her Christmas album, Snowflakes, which came out not long before Denim’s birth.

”I didn’t get to promote it like I would have liked, but I was pregnant at the time,” says Braxton. ”The record company (Arista) wanted me to wait, but (the album) was something I really wanted to do.”

Promotion won’t be a problem when her new album comes out. It will include beats from several hot producers including Timbaland and Kenneth ”Babyface” Edmonds.

”Babyface and I have worked together for so long that we have our own magic,” she says.

The still-untitled project will be a departure for the singer best known for such songs as Un-Break My Heart, You Mean the World to Me, Seven Whole Days and Another Sad Love Song.

”The new album will be more amplified,” she says. ”There will be a couple of sad songs on there, but I’m at a happy time in my life now, so it’s a little more difficult to sing about being sad.”

Mariah Carey Names Label Company

Mariah Carey’s fan site, located at the URL, MariahBuzz.com, reports that despite previous reports Mariah’s new label under Universal/Island Def Jam records would be titled, Monarch Records, the official name at the moment is in fact, MonarC Records.

MonarC Records is merely a tentative name, with the M & C in capitals and the rest in lower case. The label should be launched within the next couple of months.

With the label launched, be ready to hear Mariah’s new croons. It’s also reported that her first single should be out in September or October with the upcoming album due in December, should everything go as planned.

H & Claire To Record Song By Bjorn And Benny Of Abba

H & Claire are to record a song written by Bjorn and Benny from Abba titled ‘Another You, Another Me’.

Manager Tim Byrne flew to Stockholm back in February for a meeting with Bjorn from Abba about him and Benny writing a song for H & Claire.

On the flight over was Sir Tim Rice who suggested that Bjorn might have a track he originally wrote for a Swedish duo, Gemini. After a further suggestion from Andy from Almighty Remixers, ‘Another You, Another Me’ emerged as the favourite track with Bjorn re-writing the lyrics to suit H & Claire.

‘Another You, Another Me’ will be produced by top USA producer/songwriters Sam Watters and Louis Biancanello in late August for inclusion on H & Claire’s debut album.

Sam and Louis have written and produced for the world’s top artists including Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and 98 degrees. They have also written two songs for H & Claire which will be recorded in the same session titled ‘Nothing At All’ and ‘There You Were’.

H & Claire’s brilliant follow-up to ‘DJ’, called ‘Half A Heart’ will be out in your favourite shops on the 12th of August.

Garbage To Play At London Club

Garbage have announced that they’re to play a couple of London club dates later this month.

Shirley Manson and gang are to appear at Camden Town’s Electric Ballroom on the 28th to the 29th of August, when they’ll no doubt delight fans with songs from their ‘Beautifulgarbage’ album.

The shows are set to precede the quartet’s next single, ‘Shut Your Mouth’, which will be released on 23rd September and come backed by the additional tracks, like ‘Happiness Part 2’, ‘Only Happy When It Rains’ (live version) and a live cover of The Rolling Stones’ ‘Wild Horses’.

Garbage recently revealed that they’re to tour the US with No Doubt later this year.

Mama Toni

Toni Braxton is finding the joys of motherhood difficult to reconcile with a recording schedule. The Grammy-winning singer is juggling her six month old baby boy Denim with a rush to finish off her new album.

She says, “It’s like my life is no longer mine. It’s his. It’s been an adjustment, trying to get acclimated to his schedule. Like last night, I came in from the studio at 4:30 am and Denim woke up at 6:30 am, and I haven’t slept.”

Oasis’ Noel Loses Passport

Noel Gallagher almost blew the start of the Oasis American tour after losing his passport. He realized his passport was missing shortly before he was due to board a flight to the States.

Noel’s blushes were saved when the US embassy pulled out all the stops to get him a working visa almost instantly.

Oasis are due to kick off their north American tour in Fort Lauderdale tonight.

Noel had a spare passport, as is common practice for many bands, which is kept in a safe at the offices of his management company but he had to get another visa to allow the band to play on US soil.

A spokeswoman for Oasis said “These things can take up to six weeks but the staff managed to turn it around in just two hours. Time was against them and they are really grateful to the US Embassy for doing it so quickly. If they hadn’t been so quick, we don’t know what the band would have done. I’m sure they will be dedicating the show to the US embassy tonight.”

Oasis will tour the US before crossing into Canada and then heading on to Japan.

Atomic Kitten Claw Hear’Say

When asked who the Sugababes considered was their least favourite band, Liz McLarnon, without too much hesitation, offered a rather telling Obviously Hear’Say, apart from Johnny.”

However, Liz added “Maybe it isn’t them. I think it’s the marketing ploy thing because you know someone’s said ‘Myleene, get your tits out. Myleene sing the song, be really sexy and Suzanne, as for you, you just go stand at the side.'”

It seems that Myleene, who’s already been branded a bitch by the tabloids, isn’t too popular with the ‘Kittens either. While she preferred not to shed too much light on the matter, Liz admitted that she and Myleene have had a dispute in the past, during which the busty Hear’Say singer apparently said something out-of-turn about the ‘Kittens.

Nevertheless, Jenny maintains that she and her bandmates have no problems with the other members of Hear’Say “Johnny’s lovely. Suzanne’s a good laugh. Danny and Noel are lovely” adding, diplomatically, “don’t really know Myleene.”

Despite her reservations about the band themselves, Jenny has jumped to Hear’Say’s defence, blaming the tabloids for the group’s sudden unpopularity.

“Everyone knew that it was coming though, didn’t they?” Jenny said, “The tabloids push and make ’em so up there that the only way you can go is down. Hear’Say have had a good run. They just need to keep strong and keep at it. Everyone deserves a fair chance. After all, they’re just doing a job.”

Atomic Kitten will release their cover of Blondie’s ‘The Tide Is High’ on 19th of August.

Rhianna’s Sophomore Number

The sophomore single belonging to a gifted talent, Rhianna, will be entitled ‘Word Love’ and it’s due to drop into outlets on the 26th of August. It’ll be a follow-up single to the Top 20 hit ‘Oh Baby’.

The appealing young woman will be facing oppositions from the likes of Ms Dynamite, Tweet, Pink, Anastacia, Nickelback, all of whom also release their songs on the same day!

Rhianna has already filmed the video and left a message on her official message board stating “The video was enormously draining, a lot of boogying and leaping around. The costumes are worth waiting for on their own. You should see it on the tv in about three weeks. Can’t wait to see it myself. The single will be released on 2 CDs and DVD, featuring mixes by ‘Jay’, ‘Pound Boys’ and ‘4Hero'”.

Meanwhile, in other Rhianna-related affairs, she’s set to appear alongside MC Harvey, Shy FX, Adam F and DJ Hype at this year’s Urban Music Seminar, due to take place at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 7th and 8th of September.

The Urban Music Seminar is the only event of its kind to bring the movers and shakers of the UK urban music scene together, to help tell young people how they might smash into the music business. More than 15,000 aspiring artists are expected to listen to newsworthy seminars with records and PR companies and accountants.
