Simon Cowell And His Rudeness On US Pop Idol

How I wish I caught this one! Pop Idol’s Mr Nasty, Simon Cowell, has finally met his match after facing contestants on the US version of the hit ITV show, called ‘American Idol: The Search for Superstar’. The first show was screened on last Wednesday night was just as entertaining as the British original.

One optimistic participator striked back at Simon after he said she was a poor singer, telling him he was “deaf”. She then refused to leave the stage and went on to say that he’s “an ass”. All this on the very first episode.

Filmed at the auditions in Los Angeles, popstar-wannabe Tamika Bush hit back at Simon after being knocked back. She told him “I am hurt and I am angry. He’s an ass. And he can kiss my natural-born black ass.”

As you’ve read, the British record executive, Simon obviously must have reprised his Pop Idol stint as a judge, this time alongside record producer Randy Jackson and singer Paula Abdul.Tensions have already arisen on the judging panel, with Paula asking Simon “Why do you have to be so rude?”

But despite all this, Simon has refused to tone down his acid tongue, which reduced many UK hopefuls to tears.

“You can’t sing and you have no talent” he told one blond-haired contestant. He warned another group “This will be the audition from hell.” And he advised another popstar wannabe, after asking if she had a lawyer and a voice coach, to use the former to sue her voice coach.

More than 10,000 hopefuls attended talent searches across America for the show, which is due to conclude in September. US network, Fox TV, is thought to have paid around GBP35 million for the rights to ‘Pop Idol’.

Land And Water Records Breaks Ground: Krimzon Takes Lead With Debut Single

June 12, 2002 (New York, NY) — L.A.W Records, an independent record label based in Washington Heights, N.Y.C, announced yesterday the release of their first recording. The first release from L.A.W Records is a Single by the “other-ground” group, Krimzon. The 12″ Single includes two electrifying and emotionally charged recordings, “Live Wire” and “Every Ghetto Got.” In celebration of their success, for a limited time this week, fans will be able to download the “Live Wire” MP3 on the label’s web site, free.

With melodic beats by Bigger Picture Productions, their Single captivates listeners of varied likings. “Live Wire” is a festive, pulsating, and up-tempo track. As a celebration of cultural diversity, its energy is accentuated in dance, party environments. “Every Ghetto Got,” on the other hand, speaks of the truths and realities of tenement life. The song is a written observation and reflection of Krimzon’s experience in Washington Heights, N.Y.C. “Every Ghetto Got” also includes guest vocals by Al-Shid, and an original guitar composition by Marco Oppesido. With guitar cries by Oppesido, Krimzon looks to blur genres and deconstruct stereotypes. Production wise, they draw equally from funk, rock, and jazz as well as urban, contemporary hip-hop.According to Alpha Sesay-Harrell, Director of Productions at L.A.W Records, “L.A.W is extremely pleased with the progress of Krimzon’s Single. In both tracks you can feel the passion in their artistry. Krimzon has been successful in executing initiatives, and they are gaining momentum. We are excited about their release.”

In order to make Krimzon’s music more accessible to fans, L.A.W has published a detailed schematic outlining the label’s distribution and retail outlets. The schematic is available online on L.A.W’s web site.

L.A.W expects to build on Krimzon’s momentum. Indeed, Krimzon is expected to release a second 12″ Single by the end of this summer. L.A.W is also in the process of planning the Krimzon Colony Tour of the South and Northeast regions of the United States. The tour will give fans a glimpse into Krimzon’s much-anticipated debut Album, “Le Sacrifice,” set to drop end of 2002. Krimzon is also expected to appear on the Hip-Hop Immortals Vol. 1 Book Soundtrack this winter, a wonderful achievement for this young group considering the Book’s veteran production staff, which includes the likes of Mike Rapaport, Doug E. Fresh, Warren Sapp, and Bonz Malone.

Madonna To Work With William Orbit Once Again

Once again, Madonna is employing the talents of her former collaborator, William Orbit, to assist her in producing her forthcoming album.

In keeping with what the Mirror reported, Madonna, has re-employed the man behind her massively successful ‘Ray Of Light’ LP, extolled by fans and critics as signifying a comeback in her profession.

Lifted from ‘Ray Of Light’, her appealing track ‘Frozen’ went to No. 1 in July 1998, a position she had not achieved since 1990’s ‘Vogue’.

Together with producers Mirwais Ahmadzai whose work would include the 2001 hit, ‘Naive Song’, that’s featured on the Macintosh’s new iMac advertising campaign and Michel Colombier (Fatboy Slim), William said he’s going to join them for the recording of Madonna’s next album, which looks set to go into production early in 2003.

“I will definitely be working on her next album but it is very early days at the moment. We are discussing what sound and feel she is looking for but I’m not sure when we will start working in the studio. I certainly haven’t got as far as titles yet. I’m very much looking forward to working with her again though.”

Madonna, as we all know, is currently acting in the West End play ‘Up For Grabs’, but has reportedly curbed matinee appearances due to recording commitments.

O-Town’s O2 To Be Delayed A Little

The boys from O-Town seemingly has pushed back the release date of its subsequent J Records album, entitled ‘O2’, from the 6th of August to the 27th instead.

O-Town singer, Dan Miller, told a web page that that the group is really doing its best to ensure that ‘O2’ will be a powerful album. He said “The material has been coming in slow. We’ve been taking our time, and you can look at it both ways. I mean, it’s bad because it is getting very close to when the album is going to come out in August, but it’s good because we’re not taking every piece of crap that comes across the desk. Whether it’s from us or whether it’s from another writer, we’re not just settling because it’s getting down to the wire.”

He also went on to clarify that the album’s heading can really mean a host of different things, including the fact it is O-Town’s sophomore LP and it’s being released in 2002.

“Personally I think ‘O2’ is kind of like oxygen” he said. “I feel like we’ve got a little breathing room now, you know. We’ve kicked open the door a little bit, plus we can call a couple of shots, and we didn’t really have that breathing room before.”

O-Town’s self-titled debut album spawned the hits ‘All Or Nothing’, ‘Liquid Dreams’ and ‘We Fit Together’ but Daniel has said that the band’s upcoming release will be a tad different. “‘O2’ is definitely not what you would expect from us. We’re just coming from a totally different angle this time.”

Mis-Teeq Misunderstood

The Mis-Teeq girls have told a webzine that there is absolutely no truth in the rumour that they are planning a triple wedding. It’s said that apparently the buzz was started somewhere in April by a tabloid newspaper that claimed the trio were set to marry their fiances at one big ceremony later next year.

Su Elise stated that the rumour had been blown out of all proportions by the media. “There’s a lot of different versions of this story going around at the moment” she explained. “We are all engaged but none of us are making wedding plans and we never have been. That’s just something that’s been blown up by the media and a rumour that’s going around at the moment.”

Sabrina added that the silly gossip was nonsense since she couldn’t imagine what kind of church would be able to fit in all of the girls’ families. “We’ve all got very large families so I’d like to know what kind of cathedral is going to fit all three Mis-Teeq girls in their huge dresses, with their partners and their folks. I really, really don’t think so.’

Anyway, Mis-Teeq would be releasing their next record, the double A side ‘Roll On / This Is How We Do It’, come the 17th of June.

Anastacia Don’t Know Football

She’s singing the official tournament anthem for the FIFA World Cup, but Anastacia barely knows about the sport or even who Pele is!

The American dazzler who was picked by FIFA to perform her track, ‘Boom’, in front of nearly a billion people before the finals on the 30th of June, told the papers that she hasn’t the slightest idea who the Brazilian football legend was.

She said “I first performed ‘Boom’ at the World Cup draw in South Korea last December. I was really nervous because I knew the whole world was watching. I was determined not to mess up. Afterwards I was introduced to ‘Pay-lay.’ Then I knew he was a footballer but that was it. I don’t know everything.”

The ‘One Day In Your Life’ singer added “Being an American, we’re not that savvy about football or soccer as we call it. I don’t understand the game. They stop it all the time and I never know why. I don’t know the European game of soccer but I do know the passion behind the sport. That’s what I understand. I’m still amazed they picked me. ‘Pay-lay’ was standing next to me and talking to me plus all.”

Red Hot Chilli Peppers Expect New LP Out In August

The next Red Hot Chilli Peppers full-length release will be called ‘By The Way’ of which will spawn their first number of the same name, which just made its entry onto the Billboard charts, coming in at a No.55 slot.

Lead singer, Anthony Kiedis, has told MTV the album was supposed to arrive in shops sometime around June but because he feels that together with the rest of his band, studio time clocked up was longer than expected, so now the album’s slated to drop somewhere in August.

‘By The Way’ will be their first album since 1999’s fantastic ‘Californication’.

A while back, Red Hot Chili Peppers released an LP entitled ‘The Hits’ in order to create a bit of word of mouth before their next album arrives. Now here’s where it gets interesting or rather frustrating if you will. ‘The Hits’ will not be available for sale. It was fashioned by the rockers’ label, Warner Music, as a promotional item only before the release of their new studio set ‘By The Way’.

‘The Hits’ will be used for retail and media promotions and only be available via contests. If you ever manage to get your hands on that, be sure to hold on to it real well. That’s definitely an instant collectors item.

India.Arie’s Video Breaks Record

India.Arie’s long-running marvelous song ‘Video’ falls off Billboard’s Hot 100 this week, but not before coming close to breaking a record.

See, the funny thing is, over the course of two chart runs, India’s single, this is the one that got her those Grammy nominations, spent a total of 31 weeks on the chart, never rising higher than No. 47.

According to the people at Billboard, they’ve noted that ‘Video’ is actually the second-longest running title to not reach beyond the top 40 regions.

The record holder belongs to Ricky Martin and his ‘The Cup of Life’ which spent 34 weeks on the chart, also in two chart runs, without advancing higher than No. 45.

Ain’t It Funny That J.Lo’s Single Again

Now, not really sure if this one’s here just to create a buzz since her name’s not exactly a permanent fixture in tabloids now that she’s married and all but word has it that the gorgeous ‘Ain’t It Funny’ singer, J. Lo is solo again.

A source, apparently confirmed to The Associated Press that Jennifer Lopez, 31 and her dancer of a husband, Cris Judd, have separated. In accordance with what the source said, it seems that the pair parted amicably and have no immediate plans for divorce.

And as we all have come to know the standard celebrity formula is to just deny all and so Jennifer Lopez’s spokesman did just that.

The actress/singer married Cris, 32, in a private ceremony in Calabasas, California on the 29th of September last year. The wedding came immediately a few months after she broke up with hip-hop star, Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs, with whom she had a decidedly publicized romance.

Cris appeared prominently as a background dancer in the video for her hit ‘Love Don’t Cost A Thing’ but in current months has become increasingly more active in her career. He directed the video for the Ja Rule remix of her song ‘Ain’t It Funny’ and choreographed her recent NBC concert special. He can even be seen in her new remix track ‘I’m Gonna Be Alright’, a song/remix that I personally think is awesome. Anyway, that’s not all. Both Cris and Jennifer share writing credits for the song ‘Alive’ from her recent thriller ‘Enough.’

If this is indeed true, and she does decide to divorce him later on, then the sexy Latina is no stranger to divorces. In 1997, she married model, Ojani Noa and divorced him the following year.
