Michael Jackson Demanding Justice For Artists

The King of Pop, Michael Jackson is lending his voice to a coalition demanding “justice” for recording artists.

According to the BBC, the recently formed New-York based National Action Network (NAN) has been set up to investigate incidences of artist exploitation by major record labels.

The NAN has drawn support from infamous celebrity lawyer Johnnie Cochran and civil rights campaigner the Reverend Al Sharpton.

Michael has released a statement explaining his reasons for joining the coalition. “Record companies have to start treating artists with respect, honour and finanicial justice. Therefore I am proud to join this coalition which represents all artists.”

Meanwhile, Al Sharpton stated that the coalition would attempt to prevent the slave-to-the-record-company mentatility that currently prevails.

NAN will be prepared to work with the Recording Artists Coalition (RAC), which has campaigned for fairer contracts and more oversight into the accounting practices of record companies.

NAN will also use its influence with radio stations to boycott material from companies deemed as treating their artists unfairly.

“The lifeline of any music company is air play”, he commented.

Current plans for NAN include a “summit” of recording artists to debate the issues and high profile meetings with the five major labels, namely Vivendi Universal, Sony, EMI, BMG and AOL Time Warner.

Kylie Minogue And Vinnie Jones In A Film

Kylie Minogue will make her acting comeback with hard man Vinnie Jones in a new ‘Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels’ movie. After a series of box office duds, Kylie hopes she’ll have better luck with ‘Guns, Money And Home Cooking.’

According to the press, Kylie and Vinnie will play bank robbers who flee to a remote lighthouse after a heist goes wrong. They seek refuge with an eccentric old lady played by Dame Joan Plowright but find themselves being held hostage.

Filming will start later this year after Kylie finishes her tour.

A source close to Kylie said: “Most of the films she has been involved with have been complete flops and she is desperate to crack the big screen. ‘Guns, Money And Cooking’ has the potential to be a big hit and is in the same vein of as ‘Lock, Stock’.”

Word has it that after ‘Guns’, Kylie will work on another film, ‘The Snow Queen,’ immediately and will star alongside Joely Richardson.

Beckham Loves Ashanti And More

England captain, David Beckham, or Mr Posh, had a few free cds flown to Japan in order to help him unwind. And it appears that he is a bit of a hip-hopper.

His roll included the new releases from Ashanti, Ja Rule, Christina Milian and Ludacris.

A source close to the Beckhams said “David’s a massive R&B fan. An aide contacted the record label. They agreed to give him the albums for free and they have been flown out to Japan ahead of the Sweden match.”

Now what I’m left wondering is how come he didn’t ask for Victoria’s? Oh well, maybe he’s heard it so many times at home or maybe they’ve got like millions of her discs since she’s now dropped by Virgin because of poor sales of her LPs and singles.

Skinnier Westlife and Kian’s Westwife

The Westlife lads have been put on a pre-US tour diet by record label chiefs, because the high life has turned them into bloaters.

One source said “Westlife are going to have to compete against far more skinnier boy bands so they’d better go be thin so as to appeal to the American majority.”

Meanwhile, it sure looks like Westlife’s pretty boy, Kian Egan, has found himself a Westwife. According to reports, Kian was recently spotted shopping for an engagement ring with a mystery blonde at London’s Cartier jewelers.

If he does marry, he will be the second Westlife boy to get attached.

Posh’s Really Posh Baby

Posh and Becks’s second baby has already been offered a modeling gig before it’s even born.

According to NW magazine, London designer Eric Way wants the baby to model a $13 million diamond encrusted jacket that he’ll then auction for charity.

Apparently, born with a silver spoon is not enough for a posh baby like Victoria’s.

Wow – is that child fortunate or is that child fortunate? Man – – – – – – – – – – –

Bombay Dreams Single And Album Out Soon

If you don’t already know, Andrew Lloyd Webber is about to have a brand new musical out real soon and it’s real unique since it’s pretty much Bollywood inspired. I mean with a title like ‘Bombay Dreams’, it’s pretty much a given.

Shakalaka Baby, sung by 21-year-old, Preeya Kalidas, who also leads the cast of the musical, will be the first single from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Bombay Dreams’, written by the hugely successful Indian composer A.R. Rahman. The single has just been added to www.thebox.co.uk even.

Both the single and the ‘Bombay Dreams’ album will be released on the 17th of June, just 2 days before the musical’s opening night on the 19th of June.

Andrew Lloyd Webber has been predicting for some years that Indian musical culture would have an enormous impact in Britain and this has been borne out by Oasis’s recent, Indian-influenced number one single, the rise in audiences for Bollywood films and the success of the soundtrack to Monsoon Wedding in the classical charts.

Enrique’s Lonely

Enrique Iglesias has admitted he is lonely and wishes the rumours about his love affair with Anna Kournikova were true.

He adds that he isn’t angry about the false stories claiming he was dating the Russian tennis star.

“There is no particular type of girl that I go for. However, I will say that I like independent and intelligent women” he told Croatian magazine, Gloria.

“There is always time for love. Any artist who says they can’t find time for romance is talking nonsense. Remember that ok. That’s crap. But there are times when I feel lonely, particularly when I find myself alone in a hotel room after a concert.”

“But it is far worse when you are surrounded by people who do not know you, or do not even like you, who you know are only there because you are famous. It doesn’t do you any good if they just pander to you all the time. You need real friends who will be honest with you.”

So Solid Crew’s MC Morgan Was Almost Homeless

So Solid Crew producer Carl Morgan, aka MC Morgan, yesterday narrowly escaped being evicted from his flat. The garage don faced being booted out of his home after failing to pay the rent for over a year.

Bailiffs arrived on Morgan’s doorstep yesterday morning after his bill rose to over GBP4,000. However, the So Solid member barricaded himself in and refused to emerge. Several of Morgan’s friends then turned up and started to threaten bailiffs and council officers.

A Wandsworth council spokesman said “We went in to evict the person and he refused to open the door. A number of other people turned up and confronted our officers and the bailiffs and they felt the need to call for the police.”

Morgan eventually gave up and ran to the bank and drew the money out for the bailiffs.

A spokesperson for Morgan said “There was an outstanding financial issue with regards to Morgan’s rent which has now been settled.”

Oops, There Goes Tweet’s Tour

The headline of this article was what R&B stunning newcomer Tweet was forced to say a while back when she and Glenn Lewis cancelled their co-headlining performances.

Sometime in early April, Tweet announced that she had her heart set on going out on the road with the soulful Glenn Lewis, after turning down opening spots on the summer tours of such big-time acts such as Usher and Musiq.

With Tweet’s popular, autoerotic anthem ‘Oops (Oh My)’ and Glenn’s soulful, Stevie Wonder-esque ‘Don’t You Forget It’, both such popular tracks on the airwaves of urban radio, the tour seemed like a must for the two of them. The duo had planned a 24-city U.S. club tour that would kick off in Kansas City, Missouri, on the 12th of May and would have come to a close on the 28th of June in Cincinnati.

However, merely days before all of the festivities kicked off, almost the entire tour was scrapped. A swift survey of the proposed venues suggested that soft ticket sales may have been the culprit, though when asked what happened, the managements for both acts declined to comment. Spokepeople from both camps have persistently insisted that the tour will be rescheduled real soon, though no dates or specific plans have been finalized.

Meanwhile, be sure to check out Tweet’s brand new single, entitled ‘Call Me’ and it’s a gorgeous number, occupied with the Timbaland sounds and rather smooth Indian beats. You’re bound to like this offering of hers which will certainly grow on you after a while, that’s for sure. I’m giving it 4 stars out of 5. A good sophomore effort.
